Let me first say, you should try this to see what you think. The reviews I read were so effusive, I was expecting to be whisked off to the hilltop Gloriette Cafe in one sip. My impression, however, was that the coffee was rather bland. I've tried several Meinl coffees I like much better, even the less expensive ones. I had high expectations for this one because of the reviews, and because every description of the flavor sounds exactly like what I usually like.

Note that I made this coffee with an espresso machine, not with a French press, as others have enjoyed this blend in a press, so that may have made a difference.

Since often the reviews make it hard to distinguish which will become your new favorite bean (everything gets 5 beans because everything is so good), it makes it difficult to tell what you'll like. So I still say, try this at least once, and you may agree with the others. But if you're like me, you may be a little underwhelmed by this particular blend.

We were fortunate to travel to Vienna in 2006 where we first discovered Julius Meinl coffee. What a discovery! The Cafe Expert Expresso Spezial has been our favorite from day one. We live in a small town in the Smoky Mountains of Western North Carolina. We can't get coffee like this here. We've been ordering coffee every 6 - 8 weeks since 2006 and in our mind it's the best way to start our day...the Juliues Meinl Way!!!!!

First purchased this coffee in Vienna many years ago and have been ordering it ever since. Unlike most domestic espressos, beans are not oily so it doesn't clog my European grind and brew coffeemaker with daily use. Flavor is rich, robust and smooth--no bitter or burnt taste.

My wife and I have been married for over 30 years and we enjoy the finest wines and the finest coffees. We have traveled all over the world and always take a coffee wherever we are. At one very highly rated restaurant, we had French Press coffee, our favorite because of its smoothness, and the taste was so unbelievably good that we finally convinced the proprietor to give up the beans! It was Julius Meinl's Café Expert Espresso Spezial. WHAT A COFFEE!! First grind the beans on the ZERO setting (so large) through a Kitchen Aid BURR coffee grinder. Then, simply put one-half cup of the coarsely ground coffee beans into a French Press, add boiling hot water, stir vigorously, cover, and let steep for 4 minutes. Press down the French press to hold the coffee grinds at the bottom and pour one of the best cup of coffees you have ever had. Next, curl up with your spouse and offer a small chocolate covered biscuit. Enjoy!
